Deep in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands, England, lie two tiny villages, Upper and Lower Piddling in the Mire. The good people of these two communities have lived their lives for generations well away from what we laughingly call civilisation and indeed they still have an active Lord of the Manor, and an equally active - and attractive - Lady of the Manor, his daughter Penelope.; although it has to be said she is more active at night then in the daytime, particularly with the butler.
This idyll was sorely interrupted one day when Olga, the publican's daughter took her new boyfriend, Peter - a visiting archaeologist - to investigate what the locals refer to as 'Jack's Pit'. Peter wasn't her boyfriend when they set off on their trip, but he was by the time they returned home. So far, so good, but they find a body in Jack's Pit, a body with a knife sticking in it. Oh yes, I nearly forgot, they also find three bags of cocaine by the body. Knowing what the consequences would be if they reported all this to the police - reporters - TV and so on, destroying the peace, tranquillity and secrecy of the village Olga and Peter decide to try to solve the murder themselves before reporting it. This was going to be hard enough, but the situation was not improved by the randy lady of the manor who was determined to get between Olga and her new boyfriend.
